Sinusoidal Modeling Applied to Spatially Variant Tropospheric Ozone Air Pollution

چکیده
This paper demonstrates how parsimonious models of sinusoidal functions can be used to fit spatially variant time series in which there is considerable variation of a periodic type. A typical shortcoming of such tools relates to the difficulty in capturing idiosyncratic variation in periodic models. The strategy developed here addresses this deficiency. While previous work has sought to overcome the shortcoming by augmenting sinusoids with other techniques, the present approach employs station-specific sinusoids to supplement a common regional component, which succeeds in capturing local idiosyncratic behavior in a parsimonious manner. The experiments conducted herein reveal that a semi-parametric approach enables such models to fit spatially varying time series with periodic behavior in a remarkably tight fashion. The methods are applied to a panel data set consisting of hourly air pollution measurements. The augmented sinusoidal models produce an excellent fit to these data at three different levels of spatial detail. JEL Classification: C22 & C23

متن کاملStudy of tropospheric ozone concentration trend of Kermanshah by meteorological parameter and ozone precursor and OMI images
Abstract: Clean air is a necessity for human well-being and health. Air pollution is a major threat to humans and other organisms and is considered as one of the environmental challenges. Today, with the increase in air pollution, the need to know more about the causes of its occurrence has been raised. The various consequences of air pollution have made air quality monitoring and control inev...
متن کاملThe Evaluation of Tropospheric Ozone Formation in the Downwind of the South Pars Industrial Zone
Hydrocarbon Processing Industries (HPIs) emit large amounts of highly reactive hydrocarbons and Nitrogen Oxides to the atmosphere. Such simultaneous emissions of ozone precursors result in rapid and high yields ozone (O3) formation downwind. The climate of the Middle East has been shown to be favorable for O3 formation in summer. There are also vast activities in processing oil and gas in this ...
متن کاملLarge Scale Systems Issues in Modeling Cost-effective Policies for Improving the European Air Quality
The paper presents a large scale nonlinear model which is used for supporting international negotiations aimed at improving air quality in Europe. The model helps to identify cost-effective measures for reducing air pollution emissions that will result in meeting environmental standards for tropospheric ozone, acidification and eutrophication. Several methodological issues related to the specif...
